Local-first writing studio
Every AI writing tool remembers your world. Epoch enforces it.
It reads your manuscript and builds a working model of the story — who knows what, who was where, what has actually happened. Then it holds the line, even when you'd rather it didn't.
Asking a character something the book hasn't answered yet
Do you make it out of the tunnels alive?
I don't know that yet. Ask me after you've written it. grounded to chapters 1–14 · nothing later is known to her
Any chatbot will happily invent an ending for you. Epoch won't — it knows what the character can know at this point in the book, and it will not step past it. The refusal is the feature.
What it does
One application, so the work doesn't scatter across five subscriptions.
01 Write
A real word processor, with an assistant that has read your book instead of a blank chat window.
02 Understand
Cast, locations, timeline, continuity, and the threads you opened and never closed.
03 Picture
Characters, scenes and covers generated locally, kept visually consistent across the project.
04 Publish
Print-accurate layout and covers, exported to the formats a printer actually wants.
05 Perform
Narrate chapters in character voices and produce an audiobook.
06 Keep
No account, no sync, no expiry. The files are yours and they stay on your disk.
The AI runs on your machine
The models ship with the app and run offline. There is no account, no cloud sync, and no telemetry in the software. Your manuscript is only ever sent anywhere if you turn on a cloud provider yourself — and that setting starts off.
We don't train anything on your book. There is no arrangement under which we could.
The full list of every destination the software can reach is published in the privacy policy, and it is checked against the source code before each release.
Where it is right now
Epoch Studio is in alpha, in daily use by its author on a full-length manuscript, and coming to Steam for Windows.
This site exists so the privacy policy has a permanent home. There is nothing to buy here yet — when there is, it will say so plainly.
Who makes it
Built by Chris Kantz and published by Epoch Works LLC in Jerome, Pennsylvania. A small operation, which is part of why the software is built to work without a server behind it — there isn't one to switch off.
